Her Journey in Comedy and TV
Shantira Jackson grew up in Florida. She studied Media and Communication at Florida State University, graduating in 2008. After college, she moved to Chicago. There, she learned and performed comedy at The Second City. This famous theater is known for training many comedians.
Early Comedy Work
Jackson was part of an improv group called 3Peat. Improv is when actors make up scenes on the spot. With 3Peat, she helped write, produce, and star in a web video called 3peat: The Blackening. This video was shown on Comedy Central.
In 2017, Shantira became a writer for the BET sketch comedy show 50 Central. A sketch comedy show has short, funny scenes. This show ran for one season. She then joined the writing team for Busy Philipps' late-night show, Busy Tonight, from 2018 to 2019.
Working on Popular Shows
Shantira Jackson was a writer and a consulting producer for the new Saved by the Bell series. A consulting producer helps guide the creative direction of a show. She also writes for The Amber Ruffin Show. For her writing on this show, she was nominated for a big award in 2021. It was the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series.
In 2021, she worked with Busy Philipps again. They created a podcast called Busy Philipps Is Doing Her Best. A podcast is like a radio show you can listen to online. Shantira also joined the writing team for the animated show Big Mouth. She also writes for its spin-off series, Human Resources.
Future Projects
In late 2021, it was announced that NBC picked up a new comedy series called Aunties. Shantira Jackson wrote this show. It's based on some of her own life experiences. She is also a co-executive producer for the show. This means she helps manage the creative and business parts of making the series.
Shantira has also been a guest on NPR's "Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!". This is a funny news quiz show.
