Early Life and Sports

Sharmila Nicollet was born in Bangalore, India. Her father, Marc Nicollet, is French, and her mother, Surekha Nicollet, is from Bangalore. Her mother works with perfumes, and her father is a software expert.

Sharmila went to Bishop Cotton Girls' School and Bangalore International School. She completed her 10th and 12th grades through private study. She is also studying for a college degree privately.

Sharmila started playing golf when she was 11 years old in 2002. By the age of 15, she won her first golf tournament. Before golf, she was an amazing swimmer! She won over 72 gold and silver medals in swimming competitions across India between 1997 and 2001. She was also a talented athlete in other sports at her school.

Amateur Golf Achievements

Before becoming a professional, Sharmila Nicollet played as an amateur golfer. This means she played for fun and experience, not for money. She represented India in many big international events. These included the Asian Games in Doha in 2006. She also played in the Asia Pacific Junior Golf Tournament and the Callaway Junior World Golf Championships in San Diego. Other important tournaments were the Queen Sirikit Cup in Japan and the Malaysian Open.

Sharmila was the youngest female golfer to win the All-India Ladies Amateur Championship. She achieved this in 2007–2008. She also won seven other Open Amateur Tournaments during her amateur career.

In 2007, when she was 16, Sharmila played alongside famous English golfer Laura Davies. Laura Davies said that Sharmila had the potential to become a very good player. Her coaches also believed she had a natural talent for golf.

Professional Golf Journey

Sharmila Nicollet became a professional golfer in 2009 when she was 18 years old. This meant she started playing golf for a living. She made history by becoming the youngest Indian golfer to qualify for the Ladies European Tour. She was also the second Indian golfer ever to get a full playing card for this tour.

Sharmila won the top spot in the Women's Golf Association of India's Order of Merit in 2009–2010. She then won five more events to finish first again in the 2010–2011 Order of Merit. In 2011, she was the best Indian golfer at the Hero Honda Women's Indian Open, finishing T22. She has won a total of 11 tournaments on the Women's Golf Association of India tour.

In 2012, she fully qualified for the Ladies European Tour. She was the youngest Indian golfer to achieve this. Sharmila also won the Hero-KGA tournament in 2012 and the Hero-WPGT in 2015.
