About Sharmila Nicollet
Sharmila Nicollet was born in Bangalore, India. Her father, Marc Nicollet, is French, and her mother, Surekha Nicollet, is from Bangalore. Her mother works with perfumes, and her father is a software expert.
Sharmila went to Bishop Cotton Girls' School and Bangalore International School. She finished her 10th and 12th grades through private study. She is also studying for a degree privately.
Early Sports Life
Sharmila started playing golf when she was 11 years old in 2002. She won her first golf tournament at the age of 15.
Before golf, Sharmila was a national sub-junior swimming champion. She won over 72 gold and silver medals in swimming competitions from 1997 to 2001. She was also a talented athlete at her school, Bishop Cotton Girls' School.
Golf Career Highlights
Amateur Success
Sharmila Nicollet represented India in many important golf events. She played in the Asian Games in Doha in 2006. She also competed in the Asia Pacific Junior Golf Tournament.
She took part in the Callaway Junior World Golf Championships in San Diego. Sharmila also played in the Queen Sirikit Cup in Japan and the Malaysian Open.
Sharmila was the youngest female golfer to win the All-India Ladies Amateur Championship. This happened in 2007–2008. She also won seven other Open Amateur Tournaments.
In 2007, when she was 16, Sharmila played with famous English golfer Laura Davies. Laura Davies said that Sharmila "has all the potential to be a good player." Her coaches also believe she has great talent for golf.
Turning Professional
Sharmila Nicollet became a professional golfer in 2009 when she was 18. She was the youngest Indian golfer to qualify for the Ladies European Tour. She was also the second Indian to get a full card for this tour. A full card means she can play in all the tour's events.
Sharmila won the 2009–2010 Order of Merit on the Women's Golf Association of India. This means she was the top player that season. She then won five more events to be the top player again in 2010–2011.
In 2011, she was the best Indian golfer at the Hero Honda Women's Indian Open. She had the lowest score on the final day. Sharmila has won a total of 11 tournaments on the Women's Golf Association of India tour.
In 2012, she fully qualified for the Ladies European Tour. She was the youngest Indian golfer to achieve this. Sharmila also won the Hero-KGA tournament in 2012 and the Hero-WPGT in 2015.
