Shawnelle Scott is an American former professional basketball player. He was born on June 16, 1972. Shawnelle played as a center, which is usually one of the tallest players on a basketball team. He stood 6 feet 10 inches tall! After his playing career, he became a high school basketball coach and a physics teacher.

Shawnelle's Early Life and College

Shawnelle Scott grew up in New York City, New York. He went to All Hallows High School there. After high school, he continued his basketball journey at St. John's University. He played for the St. John's Red Storm men's basketball team from 1990 to 1994.

Starting His Professional Basketball Career

After college, Shawnelle Scott was ready for the big leagues! In 1994, he was chosen by the Portland Trail Blazers in the 1994 NBA draft. He was the 43rd player picked overall, in the second round.

Playing in the CBA

Shawnelle started his professional career in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA). This league was a step below the NBA. He played for two teams in the CBA:

  • The Oklahoma City Cavalry in 1994–1995.
  • The Connecticut Pride from 1995–1996.

He also played briefly for the Long Island Surf in 1996. Later, he returned to the Connecticut Pride and helped them win a CBA championship in 1999!

His last professional team was the Strong Island Sound in 2005–2006.

Life After Basketball

After retiring from playing basketball in 2006, Shawnelle Scott found new ways to use his skills and knowledge. As of 2025, he works at Millennium Brooklyn High School in New York City. He is a high school basketball coach, helping young players develop their talents. He is also a physics teacher, sharing his knowledge of science with students.
