Shedd Park is a large public park in Lowell, Massachusetts. It covers about 50 acres, which is like 38 football fields! You can find it near Rogers Street, with Boylston Street and Knapp Avenue on its sides.
This park is a great place for fun and sports. It has many baseball fields, courts for tennis and basketball, a special building called a pavilion, and even a water park. Shedd Park, along with Fort Hill and the Lowell Cemetery, creates one of the biggest green spaces in the Lowell area.
The Story of Shedd Park
Shedd Park was created thanks to a generous gift from a man named Freeman B. Shedd. He donated the land for the park in 1910.
How the Park Was Built
After Freeman B. Shedd passed away, his will set aside $100,000 to help develop the park. This money allowed the city to build the park we see today.
The John D. Lord Pavilion
In 1927, a building called the Shedd Park Field House was built. Years later, on October 29, 2016, this building was given a new name. It was dedicated and renamed the John D. Lord Pavilion, honoring someone important to the park.
