Sheikh Riaz Ahmad (Urdu: شیخ ریاض احمد; born March 9, 1938) is a former Chief Justice of Pakistan. He held this important position from February 1, 2002, to December 31, 2003.

Who is Sheikh Riaz Ahmad?
Sheikh Riaz Ahmad is a well-known legal expert from Pakistan. He served as the top judge in the country, which is a very important role in the justice system.
His Early Life and Education
Sheikh Riaz Ahmad was born on March 9, 1938. He studied at the Government Islamia College Civil Lines in Lahore. After that, he went to the University of the Punjab to study law. He became a lawyer in 1959. For some time, he worked as a criminal lawyer and also taught law at Punjab University.
A Career in Law
Sheikh Riaz Ahmad had a long and successful career in law.
- From 1973 to 1980, he worked as an Assistant Advocate General for the Punjab Province. An Advocate General is a chief legal advisor to the government in a province.
- He then became the Advocate General of Punjab Province, serving from 1980 to 1984.
- In 1984, he became a Judge of the Lahore High Court. This is a high court for the largest province in Pakistan, Punjab. He served there until 1997.
- In 1997, he was promoted to Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court.
- Later in 1997, he became a Judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The Supreme Court is the highest court in the country. He served as a Supreme Court Judge until 2002.
Becoming Chief Justice of Pakistan
On February 1, 2002, Sheikh Riaz Ahmad was appointed the 18th Chief Justice of Pakistan. This is the most powerful judicial position in the country. He led the Supreme Court and oversaw many important legal decisions during his time. He served in this role until December 31, 2003.
Other Important Roles
Besides his work as a judge, Sheikh Riaz Ahmad also took on other significant responsibilities:
- From 1990 to 1993, he was a Member of the Election Commission of Pakistan. This commission is responsible for organizing elections in the country.
- He also served as the Federal Secretary Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs. This means he was a top government official dealing with laws and justice.
