Discover the Trolley Museum
The Shelburne Falls Trolley Museum (SFTM) is a small but mighty museum. It works hard to save and run old trolley cars. The main star of the museum is Trolley Car Number 10. This trolley is super old, built way back in 1896!
Trolley Car Number 10: A Special Ride
Trolley Car Number 10 is a very important piece of history. It used to carry people and their luggage for the Shelburne Falls and Colrain Street Railway. This trolley was made by the Wason Manufacturing Company in Springfield, Massachusetts. It's the very last one of its kind from that old railway line! The museum works hard to keep it running and show it off.
How Trolley Car 10 Was Saved
For many years, Trolley Car Number 10 was saved by Marshall Johnson's father. He bought it and kept it safe after the old railway closed down. Then, in 1992, Marshall Johnson gave the trolley to a small group of people. These dedicated people worked hard to fix it up. They made sure it could run again, just like it did over 100 years ago!
Other Cool Equipment at the Museum
The museum also has other interesting old railway items. You can see an old caboose from the Central Vermont railway. There's also a handcar, which is a small cart moved by hand. The museum even has two MBTA PCC cars, which are another type of old trolley. Plus, there are other pieces of old train and trolley equipment to explore!
Where to Find the Museum
The Shelburne Falls Trolley Museum is located in the old Buckland Freight yard. It's a great spot to learn about how people used to travel a long time ago!
