Building History and Design
The Bridgeview Bank Building has 12 stories. The first eight floors were built in 1924. They were designed by a famous architecture firm called Marshall and Fox. Just four years later, in 1928, another firm named Huszagh and Hill added four more stories to the top.
This building is very special to Chicago. On October 8, 2008, the City of Chicago gave it "Chicago Landmark" status. This means the building is important to the city's history and culture. It is protected so it can be enjoyed for many years.
What Happened to the Banks?
The building's first tenant was the Sheridan Trust and Savings Bank. This bank opened in 1924 but faced problems and closed down in 1931. Later, in 1937, a new bank called Uptown National Bank started using the building.
In 2003, Bridgeview Bank bought Uptown National Bank and the building. The building then became known as the Bridgeview Bank Building. In 2018, Bridgeview Bank joined with First Midwest Bank. Even after this change, the building kept its well-known name.
Helping the Community
For many years, the Bridgeview Bank Building has been a place where people get help. It is home to many non-profit groups. These groups work to support people in the Uptown area. They help families and individuals who might need extra support. This includes people new to the country or those with lower incomes.
The Building's Future
In 2019, a company that develops buildings, Cedar Street, bought the Bridgeview Bank Building. Their plan is to change most of the building. They want to turn the offices into homes for people to live in. This will give more people a chance to live in this historic part of Chicago.
