Shigemi Ishii (born July 7, 1951) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a defender. Ishii was also a member of the Japan national team.

Playing for Clubs

Shigemi Ishii was born on July 7, 1951. After finishing his studies at Chuo University, he joined the Furukawa Electric football club in 1976.

Club Successes

Ishii's time with Furukawa Electric was very successful. The team won the Japan Soccer League championship twice, first in 1976 and again in the 1985–86 season. They also won the JSL Cup three times: in 1977, 1982, and 1986. In addition, the club won the Emperor's Cup in 1976.

Career Highlights

Ishii played for Furukawa Electric for ten years. He retired from playing in 1986. During his time in the league, he played 149 games and scored 5 goals. In 1976, he was recognized as one of the best players and was chosen for the "Best Eleven" team in the Japan Soccer League.

Early International Games

He made his first appearance for the Japan national team on February 12, 1974. At that time, he was still a student at Chuo University. His first game was against the Singapore team.

Major Tournaments

Later in 1974, he was chosen to represent Japan at the 1974 Asian Games. He also took part in the qualifying matches for the 1978 FIFA World Cup. Ishii played a total of 15 games for Japan until 1979.
