Shigeru Yokotani (横谷 繁, Yokotani Shigeru, born May 3, 1987 in Nishinomiya, Hyōgo) is a Japanese footballer. He plays as a Midfielder for Ehime FC.

Early Life and Youth Career

Shigeru Yokotani was born on May 3, 1987, in Nishinomiya, Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan. He grew up in the Koto area of Nishinomiya. He went to Koryo junior high school there.

Yokotani joined the Gamba Osaka youth academy. A youth academy is like a special school for young players. They learn how to play football at a high level.

Playing for Japan

Shigeru Yokotani played for the Japanese national team at different youth levels. He represented Japan in the Under-17, Under-19, and Under-21 teams.

He was part of the Japan squad that played in the AFC Youth Championship in 2006. This is a big tournament for young players in Asia.

Professional Club Career

Starting at Gamba Osaka

Yokotani was promoted to Gamba Osaka's first team in 2008. This means he started playing with the main professional players. He made his first game appearance on July 7, 2007. This was in a League Cup match against Urawa Red Diamonds.

Time at Ehime FC

In January 2008, Yokotani joined Ehime FC on loan. A loan is when a player temporarily moves to another team. He scored his first goal for Ehime on September 23, 2008. This was in a game against Sanfrecce Hiroshima. He played for Ehime FC for two seasons on loan.

Moving to Kyoto Sanga

On January 7, 2013, Yokotani moved to Kyoto Sanga. He first joined them on a season-long loan. After that, he signed a permanent contract with the Kyoto-based club. He played for Kyoto Sanga for two years.

Playing for Omiya Ardija

After his time at Kyoto Sanga, Yokotani moved to Omiya Ardija. He played many games for Omiya Ardija from 2015 to 2018. He scored 12 goals for them in 115 games.

Later Career

In 2019, Yokotani joined Ventforet Kofu. He played 36 games for them. Since 2020, he has been playing for Ehime FC again.
