Shinichi Hoshi (星 新一 Hoshi Shin'ichi) was a famous Japanese writer. He was born on September 6, 1926, and passed away on December 30, 1997.

He was most famous for his "short-short" science fiction stories. These stories were usually only a few pages long. He wrote over 1000 of them in 26 years! He also wrote mystery stories. He even won an award for his mystery book called Mōsō Ginkō (Delusion Bank) in 1968.

His Life

Shinichi Hoshi grew up in Tokyo. His grandparents raised him. His grandfather studied the human body and ancient cultures. His grandmother was the sister of a well-known Japanese writer, Ogai Mori.

Shinichi's father, Hajime Hoshi, was important too. He was the head of Hoshi Pharmacy. He also started Hoshi University. Shinichi Hoshi passed away on December 30, 1997.
