Shinji Fujiyoshi (藤吉 信次, Fujiyoshi Shinji, born April 3, 1970) is a Japanese football manager and former player. He played as a forward during his career. Currently, he is the manager of Fukui United.

Shinji Fujiyoshi's Playing Career

Shinji Fujiyoshi was born in Machida, Japan, on April 3, 1970. He started his football journey with the youth team of Yomiuri in 1989. This team later became known as Verdy Kawasaki.

Early Years at Verdy Kawasaki

Shinji played many matches as a forward right from his first season. However, it became harder for him to play regularly. This was because famous players like Kazuyoshi Miura and Nobuhiro Takeda were also forwards for the team. They were even part of the Japan national team.

Moving to Kyoto Sanga

In July 1996, Shinji moved to another club called Kyoto Purple Sanga. Here, he played as a regular starter for a while. But after 1998, his chances to play in matches started to decrease again.

Time at Vegalta Sendai

In 2000, Shinji joined J2 League club Vegalta Sendai. The J2 League is the second-highest division of professional football in Japan. He became a regular player for Vegalta Sendai. His good performance helped the club get promoted to the J1 League in 2002. The J1 League is the top professional football league in Japan.

Adventures Abroad and Return to Japan

In 2003, Shinji went to China to play for Chengdu F.C.. After one year, he came back to Japan in 2004. He joined FC Ryukyu, a club that was in the Japanese Prefectural Leagues. These are lower-level leagues based in different prefectures (regions) of Japan.

FC Ryukyu started to climb up the leagues with Shinji.

Final Playing Years

In 2007, Shinji moved to another Regional Leagues club, New Wave Kitakyushu. This club also saw success.

  • In 2008, they were promoted to the JFL.

Shinji Fujiyoshi decided to retire from playing football at the end of the 2009 season.

Shinji Fujiyoshi's Managerial Career

After his playing career, Shinji Fujiyoshi became a football manager. A manager is like a head coach who leads a football team.

On January 7, 2022, Shinji Fujiyoshi was officially named the coach of Fukui United. His main goal was to help the team get promoted to the JFL in 2023.

By October 30, 2022, his team finished 3rd in their group in the Japanese regional league. This meant they did not move on to the championship round that year. He continues to manage Fukui United.
