Shinji Murai (村井 慎二, Murai Shinji, born December 1, 1979) is a former Japanese football player. He was a talented midfielder who played for several clubs in Japan. He also represented his country as part of the Japan national team.
Shinji Murai's Club Career
Shinji Murai was born in Chiba, Japan, on December 1, 1979. He started his football journey with his local club, JEF United Ichihara. He joined their youth team in 1995 and then moved up to the main team in 1998.
By 2001, Shinji became a regular player for JEF United Ichihara, usually playing as a left midfielder. During his time there, the club did very well. They finished third in the J1 League in 2001 and again in 2003.
In 2005, Shinji moved to another Japanese club called Júbilo Iwata. He played many matches for them until 2009, except for a period in 2006 when he was injured. After leaving Júbilo Iwata, he returned to his first club, JEF United Chiba, in 2010. He played there for two more years.
Shinji then moved to Oita Trinita in 2012. He played for them until 2013, which was his last professional season. Throughout his club career, Shinji Murai played in 294 league matches and scored 19 goals.
Shinji Murai's National Team Career
Shinji Murai also had the honor of playing for the Japan national team. In July 2005, he was chosen to play in the 2005 East Asian Football Championship. Japan finished second in that tournament.
Shinji made his first appearance for Japan on August 3, 2005, in a match against China. He played a total of 5 games for the Japan national team between 2005 and 2006.
