A shirt is a piece of clothing that covers your upper body, like your chest and back. People wear shirts for many reasons, from staying warm to looking stylish. They come in all sorts of shapes, sizes, and materials.

What is a Shirt?

A shirt is designed to fit over your chest and upper body. It's a very common type of clothing worn by people all over the world.

Different Kinds of Shirts

In places like North America, you'll hear about different types of shirts such as T-shirts and polo shirts. A T-shirt usually has short sleeves that cover your shoulders.

In Great Britain, when people say "shirt," they often mean a specific type. This shirt usually has a collar, long sleeves with cuffs, and buttons all the way down the front. In North America, this specific type is often called a "dress shirt."

Some shirts don't have sleeves at all; these are called sleeveless shirts.

How Shirts Are Sized

Shirts are made in many different sizes so that everyone can find one that fits. Factories usually make shirts in standard sizes like XXXL (very large) down to XXS (very small).

For a more exact fit, especially for dress shirts, the size of the collar is often used. These measurements can range from about 37 cm (14 inches) to 50 cm (about 20 inches).

If you want a shirt that fits perfectly, you might go to a tailor. A tailor is a person who makes clothes for a living. They take many different measurements of your body to create a shirt that fits you just right.
