Shiva Feshareki is a super talented British-Iranian musician. She is known as an experimental composer and a turntable artist. This means she creates new kinds of music and uses turntables (like the ones DJs use) as a musical instrument. She performs her own music by herself or with big classical orchestras. Shiva was born in London in 1987. She studied music a lot and even got a special degree called a Doctorate of Music from the Royal College of Music. In 2017, she won a big prize called the Ivor Novello Award for Innovation because of her creative work.

Shiva Feshareki has done a lot of research and created many new pieces of music. Through her work, she helped people rediscover early electronic music pioneers. These include amazing artists like Pauline Oliveros, Daphne Oram, and Éliane Radigue. For example, she helped finish and bring to life Daphne Oram's piece called 'Still Point' at the BBC Proms. She worked on this with James Bulley.

  • Opus Infinity: This was a special piece for turntables, a music group, and a custom sound system. Shiva Feshareki and Ensemble Modern first performed it in Frankfurt in 2020.
  • Meditation on a Spiral Staircase: This piece was for turntables and a brass group that made sounds move around the room. Shiva Feshareki and the brass players from Szczecin Philharmonic first performed it at SOUNDLab.
  • Vapour: This is an electronic music track that was released as a single song.
  • Liquid Pyramid: This was a project that combined sound and visuals. She worked with an artist named alx.000000 on it.
  • Perpetual Motion (in two contrasting movements): This piece was for violin, cello, and electronic sounds. The Britten Sinfonia first performed it at Milton Court, Barbican Centre.
  • NEW FORMS LP: This was a full album of her new music.

Awards and Recognition

Shiva Feshareki has won several important awards for her music and creativity:

  • She received the BASCA British Composer Award for Innovation in 2017. This award celebrates new and exciting ideas in music.
  • She won the London Music Masters Composer Award in 2016.
  • She was given the Royal Philharmonic Society Composition Prize in 2009.
  • She also received the Women Make Music PRS award.
  • In 2004, she won the BBC/Guardian Young Composer of the Year award when she was younger.
