His Early Life and Move to Israel
Shlomo Hestrin was born in a city called Winnipeg in Canada in 1914. When he was 18 years old, in 1932, he moved with his family. They moved to a place called British Mandate of Palestine. This area is known as Israel today.
Honored for His Scientific Work
Shlomo Hestrin was a highly respected scientist. In 1957, he received a very special award. It was called the Israel Prize. This prize is one of the highest honors in Israel. He won it for his work in exact sciences. He shared this award with his research partner, David Sidney Feingold. Their student, Gad Avigad, also shared the prize.
His sister, Sara Hestrin-Lerner, was also a brilliant scientist. She received the Israel Prize in 1955. Her award was for her work in medical science.
