What the Film is About
The story begins with Uncle Bo (Ng Man-tat), who owns an old building called Tai Ping Fong. He lets people live there without paying rent. Everyone in the building lives together like one big, happy family.
Meanwhile, there's a rich young man named Lam Fung (Leon Lai). He has a very difficult relationship with his father, Lam Chung-yuen (Jimmy Wang Yu). Fung doesn't get along with his dad at all.
One day, after a big fight with his father, Fung runs away from home. He gets robbed and hurt badly. Uncle Bo finds him and brings him back to Tai Ping Fong to help him heal.
New Friends and Family
At Tai Ping Fong, Fung experiences something new. He feels loved and cared for by everyone. He also starts to like Maggie (Maggie Shiu), who is Uncle Bo's daughter.
But then, Maggie finds out who Fung really is. She gets very upset because he didn't tell her the truth.
Things get more complicated when Uncle Bo's uncle, Tang Tai-chi (Yuen Biao), arrives from Beijing. Tang Tai-chi is an amazing cook and has incredible acrobatic skills. A big food company tries to hire him away from Uncle Bo. This makes Uncle Bo feel betrayed, and they have a falling out.
Trouble for Tai Ping Fong
Later, Lam Fung's father's company, Lam Enterprises, wants to buy Uncle Bo's building. Uncle Bo doesn't want to sell it.
Lam Chung-yuen's assistant, Raymond, hires some tough people to try and force Uncle Bo to sign the papers. The family at Tai Ping Fong must work together to save their home and their way of life.
