Shunichi Ikenoue (池ノ上 俊一, born February 16, 1967) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a midfielder during his career.

Playing Career: A Midfielder's Journey

Shunichi Ikenoue was born in Gunma Prefecture, Japan, on February 16, 1967. He loved playing football from a young age. After finishing his studies at Osaka University of Commerce, he started his professional football career.

Early Club Days: Matsushita Electric

In 1989, Ikenoue joined a team called Matsushita Electric. This team is now known as Gamba Osaka. He quickly became an important player for them. He played many games as an offensive midfielder, helping his team score goals.

Time with Yokohama Flügels

In 1990, Shunichi Ikenoue moved to a team then known as All Nippon Airways. This team later changed its name to Yokohama Flügels. He continued to play well for a few years. However, in 1993, he did not play as many matches.

Final Years: Tosu Futures

In 1994, Ikenoue decided to move to a club in the Japan Football League. He joined a team called PJM Futures, which later became known as Tosu Futures. He played for them until the end of the 1995 season. After that, he decided to retire from professional football. Throughout his career, he played a total of 72 league games and scored 7 goals.

Playing for Japan: The "B Team" Experience

In 1988, while still a student at Osaka University of Commerce, Shunichi Ikenoue had a special chance. He was chosen to play for the Japan national "B team". This team played in the 1988 AFC Asian Cup. He played in two games during that competition.

It's important to know that the Japan Football Association does not count these games as official matches for the main Japan national team. This is because he played for the "B team," which is like a development squad, and not the "top team" that represents Japan in major international tournaments.
