Sibylla of Burgundy was a queen who lived a long time ago, from 1126 to 1150. She became the Queen of Sicily by marrying King Roger II of Sicily. She was his second wife.
Early Life and Family
Sibylla was born in 1126. Her father was Hugh II, Duke of Burgundy. A duke is a very important noble ruler of a region. Her mother was Felicia-Matilda of Mayenne. Sibylla grew up in a powerful family from Burgundy, a region in what is now France.
Becoming Queen of Sicily
In the year 1150, Sibylla married King Roger II of Sicily. This marriage made her the Queen of Sicily. Sicily is a large island in the Mediterranean Sea, south of Italy. At that time, Sicily was a powerful kingdom. As queen, Sibylla would have had an important role in the royal court.
Her Short Reign and Death
Sibylla's time as queen was very short. Later in 1150, on August 29, she gave birth to a child who did not survive. Sadly, Sibylla also passed away soon after, on September 16, 1150. She was buried in a church at the Monastery of La Trinità in Cava de' Tirreni, Italy.
