Simon Andrews' Racing Journey

Starting Out: British Supersport Championship

Simon Andrews began his professional racing career in the British Supersport Championship. He first raced in this series in 2001. By 2002, he was competing full-time.

In 2003, Simon raced in three different championships. These included British Supersport, British Superstock, and AXO European Superstock. He earned five podium finishes in British Supersport that year. A podium finish means he placed in the top three. In 2004, he finished third overall in the British Supersport series. He then moved up to the British Superbike Championship in the middle of the 2006 season.

Big Leagues: British Superbike Championship

Simon continued to impress in the British Superbike Championship (BSB). In 2007, he finished 16th overall, even though he only raced in nine events.

The 2008 season saw him achieve many top-ten finishes. He even ran in third place for a while at Brands Hatch. At Mallory Park, he held second place for several laps. He managed to get 20 top-ten finishes despite a knee injury.

For 2009, Simon joined the MSS Colchester Kawasaki team. Even with a collarbone injury before the season, he started on the front row at Donington Park. He finished fourth at Thruxton. At Mallory Park, he led a race before an accident involving several riders. He had wrist surgery after this, which made him miss some races.

Simon earned his first podium finish at Cadwell Park. He finished fourth but was moved to third place. This happened because another rider, Leon Camier, was removed from the results. Simon also raced in a World Superbike event at Donington. He finished tenth in one race there. He ended 2009 by finishing seventh in his first Macau street race.

Simon's Accident and Passing

On May 17, 2014, Simon Andrews was in a very serious crash. This happened while he was competing in the North West 200 race. The race took place on a road course in Northern Ireland.

Simon came off his BMW motorcycle at high speed. He slid on the road and then hit the edge of a raised pathway. Race doctors and medics quickly helped him. He was then flown to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast. He was in critical condition.

His family was with him at the hospital. Sadly, Simon passed away on May 19, 2014. He was 31 years old. His death was a result of the injuries he received in the accident.
