Simone van der Vlugt, whose maiden name was Watertor, grew up in a town called Hoorn. She loved writing from a very young age. In fact, she sent her first story to a publisher when she was only 13 years old!
Her First Books
While working as a secretary at a bank, Simone wrote her first book that was published. It was called The Amulet and came out in 1995. This was a historical novel for children about people who were accused of being witches long ago. After The Amulet, she wrote ten more historical novels especially for young adults. These books often take readers back in time to exciting periods in history.
Writing for Adults
In 2004, Simone van der Vlugt wrote her first book for adults. It was a thrilling mystery called The Reunion, which kept readers guessing. After that, she wrote six more standalone crime novels, each with a new mystery to solve. In 2012, she started a new series of detective stories. These books feature a detective named Lois Elzinga and are set in the city of Alkmaar.
