Shin Saimdang (born December 5, 1504 – died June 20, 1551) was a very talented Korean artist, writer, and poet. She was also a skilled calligrapher, which means she had beautiful handwriting. Many people remember her as a role model for her wisdom and kindness. Her respectful nickname was Eojin Eomeoni, which means "Wise Mother."
Shin Saimdang was born in a place called Gangneung in Gangwon Province, Korea. Her birth home, named Ojukheon, is still standing today and is a famous historical site. She was the mother of Yi I, who became a very important scholar in Korea. Her real name was Shin In Seon. She used several pen names, like Saim, Saimdang, Inimdang, and Imsajae. She lived at the same time as another famous poet, Heo Nansseolheon, and they were sometimes seen as rivals.

Her Wonderful Paintings
Shin Saimdang was a gifted painter. She started a special style of painting called Chochungdo, which focused on plants and insects. Imagine tiny, detailed pictures of flowers, leaves, and all sorts of bugs!

- Looking Back at my Parents' Home while Going Over Daegwallyeong Pass (Hangul: 유대관령망친정, Hanja: 踰大關嶺望親庭). This poem shows her thoughts about her family home.
- Thinking of Parents (Hangul: 사친, Hanja: 思親). This poem is especially about her mother.
