Sinbad Jr. and his Magic Belt is a fun series of short cartoons. These five-minute adventures first aired in 1965 and 1966. They were shown on local children's television programs. The show was made by Hanna-Barbera for American International Television. Sadly, many episodes of this series are now missing. Only a few episodes still exist today.
Meet Sinbad Jr.
Sinbad Jr. is the teenage son of the famous sailor, Sinbad. He travels the world in his sailboat. His goal is to find adventure and fix problems. He fights against bad guys like Blubbo, a big, bearded villain. He also battles Dr. Rotcoddam, a mad doctor.
Sinbad Jr. has a special secret weapon: his magic belt! When he tightens the belt, its diamond buckle flashes. This flash makes him super strong, like 50 men! He turns into a mighty muscleman for a short time.
Sinbad Jr. is never alone on his adventures. His best friend and first mate is Salty the Parrot. Salty is a funny and brave bird.
The Catchy Theme Song
The cartoon's theme song was created by Ted Nichols. It's based on a well-known children's song called "Sailing, Sailing (Over the Bounding Main)." That song was written way back in 1880 by Godfrey Marks. Later versions of the theme song have a more jazzy sound.
