Sir Donald Gorme Macdonald, 8th Laird of Sleat, and 1st Baronet (died 1643) was an important Scottish leader. He was known as a "laird," which is a Scottish term for a landowner, similar to a lord. He also became the very first "Baronet" in his family, a special title given by the King.
Sir Donald took over as the Laird of Sleat in 1616. He became the 8th Laird after his uncle, Donald Gorme Mor Macdonald, passed away without any children to inherit the title.
Becoming a Baronet
In Scotland, King Charles I gave Sir Donald a special new title: "Baronet of Nova Scotia." This was a very important honor. Nova Scotia is a place in Canada, and this title meant he was part of a new group of respected leaders. He was even placed second in line among all the Baronets in Scotland, showing how highly the King thought of him.

Sir Donald was a strong supporter of King Charles I. He stayed loyal to the King's cause during a time of change and conflict. Sir Donald passed away in 1643.

- Mary Macdonald, who married a man named Ewen Cameron of Lochiel.
- Alexander MacDonald of Sleat, whose daughter later married Lachlan Maclean, the 3rd Laird of Torloisk.
- Colonel Donald of Castleton, who became a soldier.
