Early Life and Family

Edward Knatchbull was the oldest son of Sir Thomas Knatchbull, who was the 3rd Baronet. His mother was Mary Dering. Her father was Sir Edward Dering, 2nd Baronet.

Edward Knatchbull married Alice Wyndham before 1698. Alice was the daughter of Colonel John Wyndham. Her brother was Thomas Wyndham, who later became the 1st Baron Wyndham. Edward and Alice had a large family with eight children. They had three daughters and five sons.

Becoming a Baronet

In 1712, Sir Edward Knatchbull inherited the Baronet title from his father. This meant he became the 4th Baronet in his family line.

Sir Edward's Political Career

Sir Edward Knatchbull spent many years serving in the British Parliament. The Parliament is where laws are made for the country. He was known as a Member of Parliament (MP). An MP represents a specific area, called a constituency, and speaks for the people living there.

Representing Rochester

Sir Edward first became an MP in 1702. He was elected to represent the town of Rochester. He held this position for three years, until 1705.

Serving Kent and Lostwithiel

After a break, Sir Edward was elected again in 1713. This time, he represented the larger area of Kent. He served as the MP for Kent until 1715.

He returned to Parliament for Kent in 1722 and served until 1727. In 1728, he was elected to represent Lostwithiel. He continued to serve as the MP for Lostwithiel until he passed away.

Later Life and Legacy

Sir Edward Knatchbull died on April 3, 1730. He passed away in Golden Square in Middlesex. After his death, his oldest son, Sir Wyndham Knatchbull-Wyndham, 6th Baronet, inherited the Baronet title.

His second son, also named Edward, became Edward, and also became a politician. He served in the Irish House of Commons.
