Sir George Douglas was the oldest son of Admiral Sir James Douglas, 1st Baronet. His family lived at Springwood Park. When his father passed away in 1787, George inherited his father's special title. He then became the 2nd Baronet. A "Baronet" is a title that can be passed down in a family.

His Time in Politics

From 1784 to 1806, Sir George was a member of Parliament. He represented the area of Roxburghshire. He was able to get this position because of the help of the Duke of Roxburghe. Being in Parliament meant he helped make laws for the country.

Family Life

On October 16, 1786, Sir George Douglas got married. His wife was Lady Elizabeth Boyle. She was the daughter of John Boyle, 3rd Earl of Glasgow. Sir George and Lady Elizabeth had three children together. They had one son and two daughters.
