Sir Herbert Lloyd, 1st Baronet (born 22 July 1720 – died 19 August 1769) was an important Welsh politician. He was known for his work in law and his time as a Member of Parliament.

Who Was Sir Herbert Lloyd?

Sir Herbert Lloyd was born in a place called Llanddewibrefi in Wales. He grew up to become a lawyer, just like his father, Walter Lloyd. His father was a well-known lawyer in south Wales. Herbert went to Jesus College, Oxford to study. After his studies, he became a lawyer in 1742.

A Career in Law and Politics

Sir Herbert Lloyd decided to get involved in politics. In 1761, he was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Cardigan Boroughs. An MP is someone who represents a certain area in the country's government. They help make laws and decisions for the people.

Becoming a Baronet

In 1763, Sir Herbert Lloyd received a special honor. He was made a Baronet. This is a title given by the King or Queen, which means he became "Sir Herbert" and his family could pass on this title. It was a big achievement at the time.

Later Years

Towards the end of his life, Sir Herbert Lloyd faced some challenges. He had money problems and lost his seat in Parliament in 1768. He also had some health issues. Even though he was married twice, he did not have any children to inherit his title. He passed away in 1769.
