Sir Hugh Fraser (born December 18, 1936, died May 5, 1987) was an important Scottish businessman. He led several big companies, including House of Fraser and Harrods. He lived in Scotland, near a place called Milngavie. Hugh inherited a special family title, "Baron Fraser of Allander," when his father passed away in 1966. However, he decided not to use this title during his lifetime. He had three daughters named Patricia, Belinda, and Caroline. It's important to know he was not related to another famous person also named Sir Hugh Fraser, who was a politician.

Early Life and Education

Hugh Fraser went to school at St. Mary's School, Melrose. He also studied at Kelvinside Academy. Later in his life, the University of Stirling gave him an honorary doctorate. This is a special award given to people who have achieved great things. One of the student buildings at the university is even named "Fraser of Allander" in his honor.

Giving Back to the Community

Sir Hugh was very generous. In 1981, he gave the Mugdock Castle estate to the local council. This land, which his father had bought, became a beautiful country park for everyone to enjoy.

In 1960, he started the Hugh Fraser Foundation. This foundation helps with many different charitable projects. He also gave a lot of support to the Glasgow Scout Association. He was even the chairman of Dumbarton Football Club, a Scottish football team.

Later Life

Sir Hugh Fraser passed away in 1987. He was 50 years old at the time.
