John James Baddeley was born on December 22, 1842. His parents were John and Frances Baddeley. He was their oldest son. He attended Cambridge House School, which was located in Hackney, London.

Public Service Career

Sir John James Baddeley began his public service career in 1886. He became an alderman for Farringdon Within. An alderman is a senior member of a city's governing body. He also joined the Court of Common Council, a group that helps manage the City of London.

Key Roles in London

In 1908, Baddeley was chosen to be a Sheriff of the City of London. Sheriffs are important officials who help with legal and ceremonial duties. The next year, he was given the title of Knight Bachelor. This meant he could be called "Sir."

His most important role came in 1921. Sir John James Baddeley was appointed the 593rd Lord Mayor of London. This is a very high and respected position. The Lord Mayor is the head of the City of London Corporation. After his time as Lord Mayor ended in 1922, he received another special honor. He was made a baronet. This is a hereditary title, meaning it can be passed down in his family.

Sir John James Baddeley married Mary Elizabeth Locks on August 13, 1868. They had nine children together: four daughters and five sons. After Mary Elizabeth passed away in 1906, he married Florence Bertha Mathews in 1912.

He died in 1926 and was buried in a family grave. His oldest son, John, took over his baronet title.
