Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Sir John Boyd, 2nd Baronet (born 1750, died 1815) was an English politician. He served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the area of Wareham from 1780 to 1784. An MP is a person elected to represent people in the country's government, called Parliament.

Early Life and Education

Sir John Boyd was the son of John Boyd, who was the 1st Baronet Boyd. A Baronet is a special title that can be passed down in a family, similar to a knight. His mother was Mary Bumpstead or Bamstead. She was the daughter of William Bamstead from Upton, Warwickshire.

John Boyd went to Christ Church, Oxford, a famous university. He started his studies there in 1768. He then earned a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in 1772.

Taking Over the Family Estate

When his father passed away in 1800, John Boyd inherited his father's title and his large family estate. An estate is a big piece of land, often with a large house. Some money and personal items were left to his stepmother and sisters.

After inheriting, Sir John Boyd made some changes to the estate. He sold off his father's big collection of paintings and drawings. He also took down some parts of the family's country house, Danson. These parts included the kitchen and stable wings. He then built a new stable block for the house. Sir John Boyd sold the entire estate in 1807.
