Sir John Leslie, 1st Baronet (born December 16, 1822, died January 23, 1916) was an important person in British history. He was the son of Charles Powell Leslie (II). His grandfather was Charles Powell Leslie (I). His uncle, John Leslie, was a bishop. Sir John Leslie was a Conservative politician. He served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Monaghan. He held this job from 1871 to 1880. He took over the role from his older brother, Charles Powell Leslie III.

Early Life and Education
John Leslie started school in 1830. He went to a school in Dedham, Essex. In the middle of 1834, he joined his older brother, Charles, at Harrow. Harrow is a famous school in England. After Harrow, John went to Christ Church, Oxford in 1839. This is a college at the University of Oxford.
Military Service
After his studies, John Leslie joined the army. He became an officer in the 1st Life Guards. This was a special cavalry regiment. He lived in different army barracks. These included places like Regent's Park and Hyde Park in London. He also stayed at Windsor and Farnborough.
Family Life
In 1854, John Leslie met Colonel George Dawson-Damer. The Colonel was a hero from the Battle of Waterloo. He also met the Colonel's daughter, Constance. Two years later, in 1856, John Leslie married Constance Damer. Their wedding was in London. Constance's mother, Mrs. Damer, was special. She was the adopted daughter of George IV's wife, Maria, Mrs. Fitzherbert.
