Sir John Pakington's Early Life and Family

Sir John Pakington was the only son of Sir John Pakington, 3rd Baronet. His mother was Margaret Keyt. She was the daughter of Sir John Keyt, 1st Baronet. In 1688, when he was about 17, Sir John went to St John's College, Oxford for his education.

Becoming a Baronet

Also in 1688, Sir John's father passed away. This meant that Sir John inherited the title of Baronet. A Baronet is a special title, like a knight, that can be passed down in a family. He also inherited Westwood House, his family's home.

His Marriages

In 1691, Sir John Pakington married Frances Parker. She was the daughter of Sir Henry Parker, who was also a Member of Parliament. Later, Sir John married a second time. His second wife was Hester Perrott. She was the daughter of Sir Herbert Perrott.

Sir John Pakington's Political Journey

Sir John Pakington was known for his strong political beliefs. He was a member of the Tory party. This party usually supported the King and the Church of England. He also held "High Church" views, meaning he liked traditional ways in the Church.

Serving as a Member of Parliament

Sir John first became a Member of Parliament (MP) in 1690. He represented the area of Worcestershire. An MP is someone elected by people to speak for them in Parliament. He was elected many times for Worcestershire.

He won elections in 1698, 1701 (twice), 1702, and 1705. In 1702, he was also elected for Aylesbury, but he chose to represent Worcestershire. He continued to be elected without anyone running against him in 1708, 1710, and 1713.

Later Political Roles

Sir John was re-elected for Worcestershire in 1715 and 1722. In 1726, he was given an important job as the Recorder for Worcester. A Recorder was a type of judge who helped with legal matters in a town. He held this position for about a year before he passed away.

End of Life and Family

Sir John Pakington died on August 13, 1727. He had three daughters from his first marriage. However, he did not have any sons with his first wife. His only son, Sir Herbert Pakington, came from his second marriage to Hester Perrott. Sir Herbert took over as the 5th Baronet and also became a Member of Parliament after his father's death.
