Sir John Smith's Life Story

Sir John Smith was born in 1744. His family lived in a place called Sydling St Nicholas in Dorset, England. His father was Henry Smith from New Windsor, and his mother was Mary Hill.

In 1773, Sir John became a member of two important groups. He was made a Fellow of the Royal Society, which is a group for top scientists. He also became a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London, a group that studies history and old things.

Sir John's grandson, Sir William Marriott Smith-Marriott, 4th Baronet, later added the name "Marriott" to the family name.
