Sir John Henry Thorold (born March 9, 1842 – died October 1922) was an important British politician. He was known as the 12th Baronet of his family. A Baronet is a special title, like a knight, that is passed down through families. Sir John was a member of the Conservative Party, which is one of the main political groups in the United Kingdom.

Early Life and Family

Sir John Henry Thorold was the son of Sir John Charles Thorold, who was the 11th Baronet. When his father passed away in 1866, John Henry became the 12th Baronet. He also inherited Syston Park, which was his family's home.

In 1869, Sir John married Hon. Alexandrina Willoughby. She was the daughter of Baron Middleton. Sir John and Alexandrina had five children together:

  • Dorothy Marion Thorold (died 1958)
  • Aline Thorold (died 1951)
  • Sir John George Thorold, who became the 13th Baronet (born 1870, died 1951)
  • Captain Henry Cecil Thorold (born 1871, died 1902)
  • Sir James Ernest Thorold, who became the 14th Baronet (born 1877, died 1965). He later married Katharine Tindal-Atkinson and had children.

Political Career

Sir John Henry Thorold was interested in helping his country. In 1865, he was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP). An MP is a person chosen by voters to represent them in the country's government, called Parliament. He represented the area of Grantham in Lincolnshire.

He served as an MP for a few years. However, he decided not to run for election again in 1868.
