Sir Robert Jenkinson, 1st Baronet (born 1621, died March 30, 1677) was an English politician. He served in the House of Commons, which is like a part of the government, from 1654 to 1659. He was also the first person in his family to hold the title of Baronet. A Baronet is a special title, similar to a knight, that can be passed down through the family.

Early Life and Education

Sir Robert Jenkinson was born in 1621. His father was also named Sir Robert Jenkinson, from a place called Walcot in Oxfordshire. His mother was Anna-Maria Lee.

When he was 16 years old, in 1636, he started studying at Trinity College, Oxford. Later, in 1649, he became a lawyer after studying at a famous law school called Inner Temple.

Political Career

Sir Robert Jenkinson became a politician and was chosen to represent Oxfordshire in the government.

Serving in Parliament

In 1654, he was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Oxfordshire. This was for the First Protectorate Parliament. He was re-elected two more times for the same area:

Becoming a Baronet

On May 18, 1661, Sir Robert Jenkinson was given the title of Baronet. This meant he became the 1st Baronet in his family line.

Family and Legacy

Sir Robert Jenkinson married Mary Banks. Her father was Sir John Bankes, who was also an important person in the government.

Sir Robert Jenkinson passed away on March 30, 1677, when he was 56 years old. His son, also named Robert, took over the Baronet title after him.
