Sir Thomas Cotton (born around 1672, died June 12, 1715) was an important English gentleman. He held a special title called a "Baronet" and worked for the King or Queen of England.

Sir Thomas Cotton was born to Sir Robert Cotton and Hester Salusbury. His mother's father was Sir Thomas Salusbury, a politician and soldier who supported the King.

From 1712 to 1713, Sir Thomas was the Sheriff of Cheshire. This was an important job where he helped keep law and order in the county. On December 17, 1712, he became the 2nd Baronet in his family, taking over the title from his father.

His Family

Around November 18, 1689, Sir Thomas married Philadelphia. She was born on May 5, 1675, and passed away on December 30, 1758. Philadelphia was the daughter of Sir Thomas Lynch, who was the Governor of Jamaica three times.

Sir Thomas and Philadelphia had several children together. Here are some of them:

  • Sir Robert Salusbury, who later became the 3rd Baronet after his father.
  • Philadelphia (born March 19, 1698), who married Thomas Boycott.
  • Stephen Salusbury (1700–1727).
