Sir Thomas Mansell, 1st Baronet (born in 1556 – died on December 20, 1631) was an important Welsh politician. He was a member of the House of Commons, which is like a parliament where laws were made, at different times between 1597 and 1614.

Who Was Sir Thomas Mansell?

Sir Thomas Mansell was the oldest son of Sir Edward Mansell, who lived in a place called Margam. Thomas Mansell became a very respected person in his time.

Early Life and Important Roles

In 1581, Thomas Mansell was given a special honor: he was knighted. This meant he was called "Sir" and was recognized for his service.

Later, in 1593, he became the High Sheriff of Glamorgan. A High Sheriff was a very important local official. They were in charge of keeping the peace and making sure laws were followed in their county.

Becoming a Member of Parliament

Sir Thomas Mansell was chosen by the people to represent them in the government. In 1597, he was elected as a Member of Parliament (often called an MP) for Glamorgan. This meant he went to the House of Commons to help make decisions and laws for the country.

He was also made High Sheriff of Glamorgan again in 1603, showing how trusted he was in his community.

A Special Title: Baronet

Sir Thomas Mansell was re-elected as an MP for Glamorgan in 1605 and served until 1611. On May 22, 1611, he received an even higher honor: he was made a Baronet. This was a new special title, similar to a knight, but it could be passed down to his children. He was the very first Baronet of his family.

He was elected MP for Glamorgan one more time in 1614.

Sir Thomas Mansell passed away when he was 75 years old and was buried in Margam.
