Early Life and Family Background
Sir Thomas Wroth was the only son of Sir John Wroth, who was the 2nd Baronet. A "Baronet" is a special title, like a knight, that can be passed down through families. Thomas was born around 1674.
When he was just a very young child, in 1677, his father passed away. Thomas then became the 3rd Baronet and inherited his family's home, Petherton Park. He received his education at the famous Winchester School.
Serving as a Member of Parliament
Sir Thomas Wroth became a Member of Parliament (MP) several times. An MP is a person chosen to represent a group of people in the country's main law-making body, which was called Parliament.
He represented different areas in England:
- From 1701 to 1708, he was the MP for Bridgwater.
- From 1710 to 1713, he represented Somerset.
- From 1713 to 1715, he was the MP for Wells.
Role as High Sheriff
Besides being an MP, Sir Thomas Wroth also served as the High Sheriff of Somerset for the years 1708 to 1709. A High Sheriff was a very important official in a county. Their job was to make sure laws were followed, manage elections, and keep the peace. It was a role that showed great trust and responsibility.
Later Life and Family Legacy
Sir Thomas Wroth passed away in 1721. He had married a woman named Mary Osbaldeston in 1693. They had two daughters together.
Because he had no sons, the title of Baronet ended when he died. This means the title could no longer be passed down in his family. His family estate, Petherton Park, was inherited by his older daughter, Cicely. She and her husband, Sir Hugh Acland, 6th Baronet, took over the estate. His younger daughter, Elizabeth, married a lawyer and MP named Thomas Palmer.
