Six Flags Atlantis was a fun water park in Hollywood, Florida. It was also known as Atlantis the Water Kingdom for a few years. This park covered many acres of land. It was located near a big highway called I-95.

The park had lots of exciting things to do. There was a huge wave pool. You could also watch cool water ski shows on a lake. A tall, seven-story slide tower offered thrilling rides. Families could enjoy picnic areas. There were also stores and arcades for games and shopping. Plus, the park had shows and activities for everyone.

Park History

The idea for the park started as a private project. It was first called "Atlantis the Water Kingdom." But the people building it ran out of money before it was finished. The park sat partly built for several months.

Then, in 1979, a company called Six Flags took over. They opened the park and named it "Six Flags Atlantis."

In 1989, the park was sold to new owners. They decided to bring back the original name, "Atlantis the Water Kingdom." They made the park smaller and more efficient. However, a big storm called Hurricane Andrew hit in 1992. The park was badly damaged. Because of this, it had to close down. All its rides and equipment were then sold off.

What's There Now?

Today, you won't find Six Flags Atlantis there anymore. Most of the land is now a shopping center called Oakwood Plaza. A Kmart store stands where the wave pool used to be.

There was once a real submarine in the park's parking lot. It was called the Submanaut. For a while, you could still see it at a place called Grand Prix Race-O-Rama. This place is now known as Dania Pointe. The submarine has since been renamed the Margenaut. Its exact location today is not known.
