Skene (which is Sgainn in Gaelic) is a small farming area in North East Scotland. It is about 10 kilometers (6 miles) west of the city of Aberdeen. Skene is made up of two main traditional villages: Kirkton of Skene and Lyne of Skene.
Kirkton of Skene is where the Skene Parish Church is located. The name "Kirkton" means "church town." The word Lyne means a "glade" or an "enclosed space."
