Sky2 facts for kids
Sky2 is a television channel from the United Kingdom. It shows entertainment programs. The channel first started broadcasting in 1997, and then a new version launched in 2002.
Sky2's Early Days
The very first version of Sky2 began broadcasting in 1996. It was available on older TV systems called analogue platforms. This early version of Sky2 shared its broadcast time with another channel called Fox Kids. Fox Kids is now known as Disney XD.
Back then, Sky2 would broadcast every night from 7:00 PM until 6:00 AM the next morning. Later, it started broadcasting for longer, until 10:00 PM. One program that aired very early in the morning was called The Death of Princess. This first version of Sky2 stopped broadcasting on July 31, 1997.
What Was on Sky2?
The channel showed different kinds of entertainment. Some of the programs that were on Sky2 included:
- Road Wars
- Party Wars
- Live broadcasts from Sky Sports (meaning it showed the same sports programs that were on Sky Sports at the same time).
Sky2's Return and Changes
A new version of the channel started in December 2002. It was first called Sky One Mix.
On May 10, 2010, Sky2 changed its purpose. It became a "timeshift" channel for Sky One. This meant that Sky2 would show the exact same programs as Sky One, but one hour later. So, if a show started on Sky One at 7:00 PM, it would start on Sky2 at 8:00 PM.
However, this change didn't last long. On August 9, 2010, Sky2 stopped being a timeshift channel. It went back to showing its own unique programs that were not always seen on Sky One. Sometimes, though, Sky One programs would still be shown on Sky2.
