How the Theater Started and Grew
Early Years and New Ownership
This theater first opened in the fall of 1997. It was built for a country music singer named Louise Mandrell to perform her shows. She sang there until the end of 2005.
In 2005, a company called The Fee Hedrick Family Entertainment Group bought the theater. They spent about $15 million to make it new and exciting.
The Miracle Theater Era
On April 13, 2006, the theater opened again with a new name: "The Miracle Theater." The main show was called "The Miracle." This musical told a story and was performed from 2006 until October 22, 2011. The show was very grand, with live animals, exciting sword fights, and even angels flying on wires! David Legg wrote the music, and Linda Nell Cooper wrote the story.
Other famous shows were also performed at The Miracle Theater. One of these was the musical "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" by Andrew Lloyd Webber.
A New Name and New Owners
On March 15, 2012, the theater changed its name once more. It became the "Smoky Mountain Opry Theater." It continues to host many different kinds of shows.
Near the end of 2018, a company called World Choice Investments bought Fee Hedrick Entertainment. This company also owns Dolly Parton's Stampede, another popular show. This means the Smoky Mountain Opry is now part of their family of entertainment venues.
