Social Security Agency (Northern Ireland) facts for kids
The Social Security Agency (SSA) is a government office in Northern Ireland. It's part of the Department for Communities (DfC). This agency helps people with something called social security, which is like a safety net for when people need financial help.
What the Social Security Agency Does
The SSA helps people by giving them money, called benefits, when they need it. This could be for different reasons, like if someone is out of work, or if they are raising children under 16. They also help people who can't work because of health problems.
The main things the SSA tries to do are:
- Make sure people get the right amount of money they are supposed to, and that it's paid safely.
- Give helpful advice and information about these benefits.
- Look into decisions again if someone thinks there's been a mistake.
- Work to stop people from getting money they shouldn't have. They also get back money that was paid by mistake.
- Help people who need to pay for a lawyer by checking how much money they have.
Where the Social Security Agency Is
The main office for the Social Security Agency is on the Stormont estate. This is close to the Parliament Buildings in Northern Ireland.
Even though their main work is for Northern Ireland, they also help out in three areas of London. They do this by handling some office tasks for another agency called the Department for Work and Pensions.
