Solo (Norwegian soft drink) facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Solo is a super popular soft drink from Norway that tastes like oranges! It's owned by three Norwegian companies: Ringnes, Oskar Sylte, and Mack.

Solo's story began in 1934. The original recipe came from Spain. A person named Torleif Gulliksrud brought it to Theodor W. Holmsen, who was the boss of a company called Tønsberg Bryggeri.

Solo's Journey to Popularity

When Solo first came out, it quickly became Norway's favorite soft drink. It was even more popular than Coca-Cola in Norway for many years, right up until the 1960s!

However, over time, other drinks became more popular. In 1999, Pepsi started selling more drinks than Solo. This made Solo the third most popular soft drink in Norway.

As of 2005, Solo had about seven percent of the soft drink market in Norway. This means that for every 100 soft drinks sold, about seven of them were Solo.

Solo in Other Countries

Solo isn't just popular in Norway! It also has a history in Sweden. Today, a company called Vasa Bryggeri makes Solo in a city called Sundsvall.

Different Kinds of Solo

Solo has a few different versions you can try:

  • Solo Super: This version has no added sugar.
  • Solo Sunset: This is another flavor of Solo.
  • Solrik: This is a juice drink that's also part of the Solo family.
