Solo (Norwegian soft drink) facts for kids
Solo is a popular orange-flavored soft drink. It is owned by three companies in Norway: Ringnes, Oskar Sylte, and Mack.
The idea for Solo came from Spain. In 1934, a person named Torleif Gulliksrud brought the recipe to Theodor W. Holmsen, who was the boss of Tønsberg Bryggeri.
Solo's History in Norway
Solo quickly became a favorite drink in Norway. For many years, it was even more popular than Coca-Cola there, especially until the 1960s.
However, things changed over time. In 1999, another big soft drink, Pepsi, became more popular than Solo. This made Solo the third most popular soft drink in Norway.
As of 2005, Solo held about seven percent of the soft drink market in Norway. This means that for every 100 soft drinks sold, about seven of them were Solo.
Solo in Sweden
Solo also has a history in Sweden. Today, a company called Vasa Bryggeri makes Solo in a city called Sundsvall.
