Someone Was Watching is an exciting book written in 1993 by David Patneaude. It tells the story of a boy who thinks his younger sister didn't drown in a river. He believes she was taken by someone instead.
Story Summary
Chris Barton, who is 13 years old, goes on a family trip. They are visiting their summer cabin for Memorial Day Weekend. Chris is supposed to watch his 3-year-old sister, Molly.
But Chris walks away for a short time. He wants to film the beautiful scenery with his video camera. He then falls asleep. When he wakes up, he rushes back to where Molly was. He finds that his parents are also asleep. Molly is nowhere to be seen.
Later, Molly's coloring book is found at the end of a nearby dock. Everyone thinks the little girl fell into the river. They believe she drowned. People search for days, but they find nothing. Many people assume Molly's body was carried far downstream. They think she is lost forever.
Six months pass after Molly disappears. Chris makes an important discovery on his video camera. This discovery might prove that Molly did not drown that day. Chris now believes she was taken by someone. He thinks she might still be alive. With help from his best friend, Pat, they start a journey. They travel from Wisconsin all the way to Florida. Their goal is to find out the truth.
