Dominique McLean (born March 2, 1998), known as SonicFox, is an American professional esports player. They are famous for playing many different fighting games. SonicFox has won many big tournaments, including seven Evolution Championship Series (EVO) events. They won these events playing five different game series.

As of August 2019, SonicFox was the highest-paid fighting game esports player in the world. They had earned over $719,204.94 from playing games. SonicFox is especially well-known for winning in Mortal Kombat and Injustice games. Both of these popular games are made by Netherrealm Studios. In 2018, SonicFox was named Esports Player of the Year at The Game Awards. They were also included in Forbes magazine's "30 Under 30" list for Games in 2020.

SonicFox is part of the furry fandom. They are known for competing in tournaments while wearing a fursuit. Their fursuit is a blue-and-white fox character.

SonicFox's Gaming Journey

Dominique McLean's older brother, Christian, first got them interested in fighting video games. This happened when McLean was only three years old. As McLean grew up and kept playing games, they also discovered the furry fandom. They were about ten or eleven years old when they created their "SonicFox" character. SonicFox often competes in tournaments wearing a special blue-and-white fox fursuit.

Around 2011, McLean was playing Mortal Kombat online just for fun. Their online friends saw how good they were and told them to try a real tournament. In 2012, McLean joined an offline Mortal Kombat tournament. Even though they finished ninth, they loved the exciting competition. Since then, they have continued to play in many fighting game championships.

Big Wins and Recognition

SonicFox had a huge win at the Injustice: Gods Among Us tournament at Evo 2014. They won with a perfect 6–0 score. In December 2015, News.com.au reported something amazing. SonicFox had not lost a single tournament for 18 months! They also earned $150,000 USD in just two weeks by winning Mortal Kombat tournaments.

In 2018, SonicFox received a big award. They were named "Esports Player of the Year" at The Game Awards ceremony. Their acceptance speech got a lot of attention. In 2020, Forbes magazine recognized SonicFox again. They were put on the "30 Under 30" list in the Games category. This list highlights young people doing great things.

In early 2020, SonicFox joined the esports team Evil Geniuses. They were part of the fighting games division. Later that year, SonicFox was even added as a background character in the game Skullgirls. SonicFox announced they were leaving Evil Geniuses in late 2023.
