Sonja Ziemann (born February 8, 1926 – died February 17, 2020) was a famous German actress. She starred in many movies and TV shows. In the 1950s, she was one of Germany's most popular actresses.

She won the Bambi Award in 1950 for her role in the movie Schwarzwaldmädel. Later, she took on more serious roles in international films like The Secret Ways. Sonja Ziemann also acted in plays and on television.

Sonja Ziemann's Acting Journey

Sonja Ziemann started dancing lessons with Tatjana Gsovsky. From 1941, she performed in musical plays called operettas. After World War II, she often performed at the Metropol Theater in Berlin.

Early Film Career

Sonja Ziemann began acting in movies when she was just 15 years old. By the time she was 18, she was already a big star. She became very famous in the 1950s, especially in a type of German film called Heimatfilm. These movies often showed beautiful country settings.

She often acted alongside Rudolf Prack. They were a popular screen couple. Their movie The Black Forest Girl (1950) was a huge success. It was a cheerful film that many people enjoyed. This role helped her win the Bambi Award for the most popular actress that year.

Ziemann and Prack worked together again in The Heath Is Green (1951). This movie brought over 16 million people to cinemas! She also acted with other famous stars like Karlheinz Böhm and Hardy Krüger.

Moving to Serious Roles

Later in her career, Sonja Ziemann felt that her "sweet country girl" roles were a bit too simple. In 1958, she took on a more serious role in the Polish drama The Eighth Day of the Week. This film showed a different side of her acting.

She was the first German actress to star in a big international movie. This was the spy film The Secret Ways in 1961. It was her first American film. She also appeared in the war movie The Bridge at Remagen in 1969.

Stage and Television Work

In 1962, Sonja Ziemann returned to the theater. She played Eliza Doolittle in the famous musical My Fair Lady. She performed this role in Zurich and Munich. She also acted in other plays, including Lulu. She even toured the world with actor Götz George, performing in plays by Tennessee Williams.

Sonja Ziemann's Family Life

Sonja Ziemann was married three times. Her first husband was Rudolf Hambach. They had a son named Pierre, who sadly passed away at a young age in 1970.

In 1961, she married Polish writer Marek Hłasko. They later divorced in 1969. From 1972 until his death in 2001, she was married to her fellow actor Charles Régnier. Sonja Ziemann passed away on February 17, 2020, at the age of 94.
