Sorina-Luminița Plăcintă (born Sorina Ștefan, also known as Sorina Bucuraș) is a Romanian engineer and politician. She was born on February 6, 1965.

Sorina Plăcintă was a member of the Romanian Senate for Vrancea County. She served in this role from 2008 to 2012. The Senate is like one of the two main groups of lawmakers in Romania.

She was also a government minister. From July to December 2009, she was the Minister of Youth and Sport. This job involved looking after programs and activities for young people and sports. She also briefly served as a minister who helped connect the government with the Parliament.

Early Life and Education

Sorina Plăcintă was born in Focșani, a city in Romania. She went to the Gheorghe Asachi Technical University of Iași. In 1989, she graduated with a degree in Textile Technology and Chemistry.

After finishing university, she started her career as an engineer. From 1989 to 1993, she worked at a factory in Focșani. This factory made yarn from wool.

From 1993 to 1994, she worked in Bucharest. She was an assistant manager at a company that bought and sold goods internationally.

Career in Business

Sorina Plăcintă spent many years working in the textile industry. She was involved with several textile companies in Focșani.

  • At Soreste, she was a major owner and leader starting in 1994.
  • She also led Milcofil, another textile company, from 1997. Soreste later bought Milcofil.
  • From 2005, she was a director at Artifex. This company was a partnership between Soreste and another firm.

She continued her work in these businesses until November 2008.

Political Journey

Sorina Plăcintă began her political career in 1997. She joined the Democratic Party, which later became known as the Democratic Liberal Party (PD-L).

In the 2008 national election, she was elected to the Romanian Senate. This meant she became a lawmaker representing Vrancea County. In the Senate, she became a vice president of the committee that focused on farming, forests, and rural development.

In July 2009, she was appointed Minister of Youth and Sport. This was a big responsibility, focusing on activities and policies for young people and sports across the country. Later that year, she also briefly took on the role of Minister for Relations with Parliament. This job involved helping the government work smoothly with the lawmakers in Parliament.

Her time as a minister ended in December 2009. She was not chosen for the new government cabinet. In 2010, she was elected as a vice president for her party's branch in Bucharest.

In June 2012, she left the Democratic Liberal Party. She then joined the National Liberal Party. She decided not to run for re-election in 2012, and her term in the Senate ended that year.

Personal Life

Sorina Plăcintă has a son from her first marriage. She has also supported the building of two churches for the Romanian Orthodox Church.

She was married to Stefan Sobota, who was a business partner. They divorced in 2010. The following year, she married urologist Viorel Bucuraș. She adopted his last name in 2012.
