South Wallins is a small community in Harlan County, Kentucky, in the United States. It's called a "census-designated place" (CDP) because the government counts its population for official records, even though it's not a formally organized town. In 2010, about 859 people lived here. By 2020, the population was 838.
Where is South Wallins?
South Wallins is located in the western part of Harlan County. It sits in the valley of Wallins Creek. This creek flows north and eventually joins the Cumberland River.
The community of Wallins Creek is right next door, to the north. The main road through South Wallins is Kentucky Route 219. If you go north on this road for about 1.5 miles, you'll reach U.S. Route 119 in Wallins Creek. If you head south for about 3.5 miles, the road ends in a place called Creech.
The total area of South Wallins is about 6.3 square miles (16.4 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a very small part being water.
