A Look Back: Spencerburg's History

Spencerburg was officially mapped out and planned in 1836. This process is called "platting," which means creating a detailed map of land, showing streets, lots, and other features. The community got its name from a nearby stream called Spencer Creek.

For a while, the name was spelled a bit differently, as "Spencersburg." In 1837, a post office opened in Spencersburg. A post office is where people send and receive mail. It was an important place for communication and connecting people in the area. This post office served the community for many years before it finally closed down in 1903.
