Spiderweb for Two: A Melendy Maze is an exciting children's novel. It was written and illustrated by Elizabeth Enright. The book was published by Rinehart in 1951.

This story is the last of four books about the Melendy family. The series began in 1941. This book focuses on the two youngest Melendy children. They are left alone in their big country house.

The first three books in the series came out between 1941 and 1944. They were later put together in one book in 1947. This combined book was called The Melendy Family.

Unraveling the Mystery

The story begins with Miranda "Randy" Melendy feeling very sad. She thinks this winter will be the worst ever. Randy and her younger brother, Oliver, are now the only kids at home. Their older siblings have all left.

Rush and Mark have gone to a boarding school. Mona is living in New York City. She is staying with Mrs. Oliphant, an old family friend. Randy does not like changes, and even Oliver is finding it hard to be left behind.

The First Clue

Then, something mysterious happens. A secret note arrives in the mail. It is a rhyming clue! The note invites Randy and Oliver to solve a puzzle. Each clue they find will lead them to another.

The children are promised a special "treasure" at the end. This starts their amazing adventure.

The Great Maze

Randy and Oliver begin to explore. They look all over their countryside home. They also discover new things about their community. The clues even help them learn about their own family's past.

They race through a maze of hints and tricky messages. Sometimes they guess right, and sometimes they are led in the wrong direction. The game keeps them busy and excited.

The Reward

In the final part of the book, the mystery is solved. Randy and Oliver discover who sent all the clues. It was their own family and Mrs. Oliphant!

The children finally get their "rare reward." Everyone is together again for the summer. It is a happy ending for the Melendy family.
